If you are the passenger of a car that gets pulled over can you as a passenger just open the door and walk away?

If not then you are being detained and need to notify if you are carrying.

It sounds like you have it under control.
    1) be careful; be safe
    2) notify police if the address you
    3) stay out of actual bars
    4) stay out of all the other obvious off limit places. you have the list
    5) have fun!

Sounds like you've done your homework. Enjoy your time here and be safe. If you need anything while you're here, The Firing Line is a great gun shop in Westland, just west of Detroit.

I have a resident NY permit, and also permits for NH, PA and UT.

PA makes me good in PA obviously. I think UT is also accepted in PA. My UT permit is accepted in OH.

Well... depends what Hockey Town is!

I googled it, is it the Hockey Town Cafe?

Also watch yourself after dark I am not saying it is bad but it really has some potential. I have worked many nights in and around that area and it certainly changes after the sun go's down.

Better yet, try Slow's Barbeque on Michigan Avenue near the old stadium. Crappy part of town, but a great restaurant, amazing barbeque, and they'll valet your ride.

Yes, I believe you could. That doesn't mean at some point the officer isn't going to stop you and ask to see your ID, which would then require showing your CPL if you are carrying. As far as I know it is still legal to walk down a street, unless it's a highway where walking and hitchhiking is not allowed.

On a local forum, an attorney asked the same question of me (during the debate). I cheated and reused his question on you.
He said in his opinion that all parties were being detained, because if you open the door during a traffic stop the cops more than likely not just let you walk away.

I believe you are right about walking down the street (sans highway of course), but I think his point was that they would let you leave the stopped vehicle.

All just opinions of course, I'm just passing what he had said.

In my case, regardless of whether or not I HAVE to notify as a passenger, I will notify. It'll make things go a lot smoother and I have nothing to hide.

I picked a good weekend to come to Detroit. We went to the gun show at the Gibraltar Trading building today. Small show but something to do and a chance to dig through everyone's mags looking for preban ones :)
