Motorcycle and going into no carry zones

Thought of somthing this morning as I was looking at my motorcycle.

If I am carrying while going around town and have to go into a no carry zone (Post office...) How do I secure it?

I could cable and lock a box in the sadle bag, but then it would make that bag usless for everythign except that.

    What do you think?

I take it your bags are soft side bags with no locks? I use a small safe (from Center of Mass) in the car, it would fit in the bag with a cable lock and leave room for other items in the bag. I have locking hard trunk and side bags so it reduces the risk of theft.

Just get a Goldwing and you won't have a problem.

I agree with Kapn, use a little safe to put it in the bag. Also use your SA, and make sure no one is paying attention to you and limit your time in the facility.

There are other options. I rarely go in to a PO anymore - get stamps at the grocery store, mail packages from work (just pay them the shipping costs). If you get a little creative, you can completely avoid location that don't permit carrying. Good luck, stay safe!

I have a Road King Classic with the leather bags (leather over plastic) that did not come with locks. I found some aftermarket billet aluminum locks about 4 years ago that I installed because I carried a camera quite frequently. I think the company was "Aeromach" or something like that. Also, here is a link for a gun safe that I have in my truck that will also work in a bike saddle bag:

    In Car Gun Safe

You'd have to drill or cut a hole in the bag to route the cable to fasten it to the frame, but that shouldn't be a big deal. Nothing will totally prevent theft, but this plus a lock on the bag will at least slow a thief down or make it obvious to passers by if you park in a busy place where your bike is visible. I never park my bike where it is out of my sight for any length of time with anything of value in the bags.

I use a small COM safe in the tank bag with the cable wrapped through the handlebars. Or in a saddlebag depending on what I am doing.

I just don't go to No Carry Zones when I'm carrying..... I avoid them all together.... Just because I don't like to expose my concealed weapon when I'm in the public...
I look like the typical 60's biker... I can imagine what a little old blue hair or an ultra liberal anti-gun soccer mom will do when she see's me pull into a USPO parking lot on an obnoxious harley, pull my weapon from the concealed holster, unload it.... but before I can securely stow it, she is hiding out of sight, on her cell phone with the cops, telling them A terrorist biker just pulled out a gun and is loading it (because she doesn't know the difference between loading and unloading looks like) and is making his way into the post office!..... I just don't want to deal with it!

In Michigan, and according to the Michigan State Police website, the parking lots in Pistol Free Zones are exempt.... except for Casinos....

I just noticed after re-reading it.... "All Federal Buildings" are no longer on that list... When I took my CCW class All Federal Buildings were off Limits, including banks.... Very interesting, I wonder if this law has changed or they just omitted it on their website?....

Most of the bikes that I have had were equipped with some sort of locking compartment. I assume since you post this yours does not. Maybe for short indoor trips you just cable lock the weapon into the saddle bag? Ignoring the box altogether. This likely will depend on what type of weapon you are carrying and what carry condition it is in. i.e. a Glock with one in the chamber would be quite dicey trying to run a cable lock through the trigger guard. Myabe get some hard sided locking saddlebags? This though depends on the type of bike you have.

You're correct... not all banks are federal.... I should have worded that better..... banks as I used it = "Federal Financial Depositories" in according to MCL 750.234d
    Michigan Legislature - Section 750.234d

But that is the way understand the law.... Please educate me if I am wrong. it wouldn't be the first time...LOL I would really appreciate it!

There are no Federal banks. All banks are privately owned. Even the Federal Reserve Bank System is privately owned. It just serves a single customer, the US Treasury.
