Other than the lack of jobs and the length of winter, MI is a pretty darn nice state. But, like I said earlier, I would just OC rather than go unarmed. But that's just me :) Welcome to MI!

yeah, it really is. I love the outdoors, even the winters. It's just the over-sized-broken-right robbing-life sucking- big G that kills me.

Can you steer me to the oc laws of mi? I'm a little confused how you can open carry but cant have a loaded gun in the gar and so on. I love links. :-)

Mine took 5-6 weeks. I just made the deadline for the county gun review board when I got my finger printing done and they passed the CPL's out in the clerks office right after the gun review board meeting.

A pistol in a car is considered concealed under law. On the street, open carry is legal, just not that common even up here in the U.P. Alger County is really nice if you love the lakes and woods.

I actually had a similar question and want to make sure to get the correct idea ... obviously I would double check to make sure though. I currently live in Michigan and am planning on getting my concealed permit however I am planning on moving this summer to Colorado. So I'm trying to decide to get the permit here or when I move ... I would still have my parents address to use as my permanent so I'm assuming I would only have to get the Colorado permit if I changed my license and everything to Colorado? Basically I don't want to get it here and then not be able to use it there or have to repay the fees .... also its about $50 less expensive here.

If you keep your Michigan residence, you'll be fine in Colorado since your only vacationing for the summer.

I think that they will honor your Florida permit and waive the 6 month waiting period. From what I've heard the gun boards here, with the exception of Wayne county, are very carry friendly. After all, that's their job.
I would suggest calling the county sheriff and asking about appling. Explain that you already have a Florida permit, and get the process started as soon as possible. I would then just wait until the application is in before changing your drivers license to Michigan.

I am not sure about how Michigan handels it, but i know that when I moved from MI to TN, all I had to do is apply for a renewal. I did not have to retake the class or anything like that. They more or less just transfered my MI one to TN.
