Concealed weapons permit before turning 21 loop hole

I have heard that in Florida one may apply for a concealed weapons permit within 6 months of turning 21. Is there any truth to this? Thanks in advance.

In a few states you can put in your application before the actual date of your 21st, however this is only to get a head start on paperwork and you cannot actually receive the permit until you are legally of age.

Idaho is 'may-issue' at 18 and 'shall-issue' at 21. Other states may have similar laws.

You can have an Indiana carry permit at age 18.

It is my understanding that here in Florida, you must be 21 in order to apply for a permit. Therefore, until you turn 21, you are not eligible to apply for a permit.

FYI: Having somewhat recently turned 21 and applied for my permit, it only took 17 days from the day I mailed my application to the day I received my permit.

Welcome to the DC Forum from Delaware. Don't push your 21's, it's all downhill from there.

Florida allows you to take self defense classes, such as a CCW class, before the age of 21, but you have to be 21 to apply for a concealed weapons license.

And as stated before, you can own a handgun at age 18, you just cannot buy one from a retailer. It must be gifted to you or bought from a private seller face to face.

You can get an out of state license/permit I guess, but Florida will not honor it because Florida does not allow concealed carry until 21 years of age. You would be committing a crime.

If you are 18 or older you may carry a handgun inside your personal vehicle. You just cannot hide it/carry it on your body. It has to be carried as per statutes in the same manner as anyone else who does not have a concealed weapons license. A handgun must be kept "not ready for immediate use".

That means it has to be:
    1. In a glove box (can be loaded, no holster necessary)
    2. In a box, container or bag that has a lid that closes, has a zipper that zips closed or a flap that snaps closed.
    3. In a center console inside a snapped secure holster.

By the way, I am also in Tallahassee. Welcome!

In NC I was able to take my CCW class before I was 21, but I could not apply for the permit until the following business day after I turned 21.
