Actually, if you're in a restaurant (not the bar protion), you can have a beer with dinner while armed...not illegal.

(Forget the flames about guns and alcohol, I'm just sayin'...)

This probably won't happen to you, but...

I attended an event at the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center, and it is on property belonging to the port. The port is very strict about having no weapons.

Also (more likely) some facilities search bags, though I haven't been in one that used metal detectors or pat-downs yet.

Have fun, and let us know how it goes.

Personally, 1 beer is enough for the prosecuter to raise an eyebrow if the shtf. even when you are alone. your judgement , impaired or not, leaves the door open. Have a great trip, and watch your six!

Good choice on restaurants! Ybor isn't too bad during early evening but can quickly attract a different crowd after the dinner crowd.

Come on down, stay armed, enjoy the conference, and stay safe!

I plan on carrying during the convention, which is going to be primarily a couple days of classes and presentations, mainly because I just don't want to leave it in the room.

I adore Columbia restaurant in Ybor city (I'll do lunch). A meal there is really the only time I plan to venture away from the hotel if I can help it. While I am relatively familiar with Tampa, this will be my first time carrying out of state. Thanks for the well wishes.
Columbia is on my short list for greatest places to dine, not a bad choice on their menu! Then, down the street to Stogie Castillo's humidor....now that makes for a fine day.

On a more serious note, I have found a GPS in the vehicle to be a great device to prevent getting lost and wandering into dangerous areas...if you don't have one, I say get one and take it on this trip.

Made it home safe. I really missed using the rest areas though. It totally changed the rhythm of my driving. Saw an interesting bumper sticker in Tampa - WARNING! I am not a TOURIST. I am an ARMED NATIVE.

Relatively uneventful at the convention, although on Sunday there was a group of guys talking during a coffee break and the lead mouth was from Arizona. He was talking about a traffic stop he was in, and how a LEO gave him a hard time because he carried high up at 2 o'clock, and his wallet was in his front pocket at the same position. So, as he's going into how the cop disarmed him, I asked him, "Any particular reason you didn't already have your wallet out and ready by the time he got to your window?" And this guy replies to me, "I don't assume I've done something wrong so why should I have my I.D. ready?" So I point out the obvious about his carry position and his wallet and his comeback is, "What are you some sort of anti-gun nut?" I guess my Glock 27 in my Supertuck was staying nicely hidden. I left with a, "Nope, have a good one"
