    I got my ccl today.

Well I finally got my ccl today. I am still searching for the perfect gun for me to carry. I am really considering the Ruger sp 101.. 2" revolver. I really have been taking into consideration the fact that the revolver is simple to use. Compared to the semi-auto. Which in a self defence situation could fail on me, due to a number of reasons... I just wanted to share the news with everyone.

I want to be the first to congratulate you!

May you always carry, and never have to use it.

Congrats on getting your permit. Try not to stare at it to long because your smile might become stuck.

Congrats on the new permit! VA is now a bit safer.

I think your choice of the Ruger will work well for you.

    That's not a bad revolver. 357Mag, or 38Spcl+P.

Don't rule out semiautos, though; a good semiauto will be reliable. I have both SIGs and Glocks, and none of my carry weapons have ever had FTF or FTE.

No item made by human hands is infallible... Not saying a revolver isnt a fine choice, just saying anything built by humans can fail.

I'm a semi auto kinda person, so for me its an easy choice. If your more comfortable with a revolver, then thats just as easy.

Congrats. Any weapon that you are comfortable with and can poke holes where you want them is a good choice!

Reliability. Simplicity. Ease of use, particularly when under stress. Size, weight, ergonomics. Competency with the specific gun. Of these, IMO, reliability is the most important, but it's closely followed by ease of use, by your ability to become competent and comfortable with manipulating the controls, executing reloads.

The Ruger SP-101 is a good one. It's heavy enough to be controllable, to not beat you up with frequent training. Revolvers have to be quickly reloaded as well, and the technique is (obviously) different than that used with semi-autos. Definitely practice drawing, reholstering, quick and reliable reloads.
Your best weapon is your brain. Don't leave home without it.
