Great news for AZ ...now the signature!

If she goes into effect, I'd like to see her bleed a bit to the east.

It is expected that the Governor will sign it, as they made a couple of small tweaks to the bill that she requested be made.

    YMMV

Congrats AZ, now if we could get the rest of the States to join the club.

What were these "tweaks"? Also, if/when she signs this, when will it actually go into effect and become law?

What are the detail of this? What does this allow?

It allows the carry of concealed weapons by law abiding citizens, not in the commission of a crime, without a permit. The tweaks were to allow a LEO to take possession of the weapon during contact for his/her safety, and makes it a crime to lie to LEO about having a concealed weapon.

I thought this was already the case pretty much everywhere. Seems like "officer safety" ALWAYS trumps a citizen's rights...no matter what... As long as HE goes home safe at night...

I have a CCW permit so it doesn't really matter, but would this allow a non-resident to carry legally?

We spend a week or so a year in AZ, but we're not AZ residents. I'd like for my wife to be able to carry while in AZ. She does not have a CCW (yet!).

I hope this spreads to other states like wildfire.

Yes, anyone legally allowed to own a handgun would be legally allowed to carry it without a permit concealed. That's what Constitutional Carry means. ;) You (or your wife) can always open carry, too, as a permit is not required.

But, if you have a permit from ANY other state, you're good to go in AZ to CC. AZ recognizes every other state permit, even a non-resident permit, as you probably already know since I highly doubt you have a CC permit from IL.

    LOVE AZ.

You're correct, but she wanted it spelled out explicitly in this bill, and the language was added.

For we Arizona residents that support SB 1108, it's important that you write to Governor Jan Brewer to let her know you support her signature. Make sure to state why you support it. It's easy, only takes a few minutes. Just go to Arizona Governor Jan Brewer and click on "Contact the Governor". Be professional (no drama); short and sweet, and pithy in your comment. If you are a native, bonus points!
Politicians LISTEN to their constituents more than you think. It's their measure of success; they can point to the communications received as to why they support legislation. If you've never contacted an elected official before, MAKE THIS the first time (as did I) and it will leave you feeling good! (PS: The opposition listens too; it may not change their vote but it may moderate their tenor).
