Thought I had a ND yesterday...

So I was working outside my shop on a piece of equipment. Just another day at work, nothing out of the norm happening. My Carry gear is the same as always, Baby Eagle .40 full size, tucked IWB holster.

    BANG

    What the was that!?!

I felt pressure on my right leg and something next to my right foot.

There was a guy from a windshield company replacing a window on a pickup about 20 feet from me, he jumped and was looking around, asked if that was me, what the heck was that. I am probably white as a ghost and eyes as big as salad plates checking the ground for a bullet impact and my leg for injuries, waiting to see if pain is going to show up.

I knew, just knew my sidearm discharged. Nothing else it could be. I went to the bathroom not 10 minuets earlier and unholstered to do do so.

I told the guy I had no idea what that was. My air hose was not leaking air, nor my air tanks ruptured. Tires on everything in the vicinity were all good. The only thing I could think of is that I must have caught part of my shirt in the trigger when I holstered and when I was working it pulled the shirt and the trigger.

I discretely reach down to feel my jeans where the holster is at and swore I felt a ragged hole. DAMN.

I look around a bit more to see if anyone else is coming out to see what happened. Nothing. Then I feel through my shirt to feel the safety, nope, still on. WTH?

As the adrenaline starts dropping off, while I am trying to play business as usual, it occurs to me that I should be feeling at least some burning from the muzzle flash on my thigh. Nothing.

I check again for the hole and it occurs to me that what I felt the first time was the bottom of my flashlight holster. My jeans are still intact. I checked my shirt, nope, did not get tucked inside the holster. Could have been a spontaneous discharge of a factory SD round (yeah - right) but my pants are not torn, nor am I just lucky and uninjured from a bullet traveling down the side of my leg between the skin and pants, and hitting the pavement next to my foot. I am not that lucky.

I grab my impact gun and notice a hole/tear in the outer cover of the hose, and a 1" egg shaped piece of the covering missing.

I had a tiny leak in the air hose that caused a bubble to form in the cover and it popped, and what I felt was the air blast against my leg and the piece of rubber covering hitting the ground next to my foot (found the missing piece).

Biggest scare I've had in a looooong time.

I guess you didn't think to check the # of rounds left in the gun?

I thought you where going to say a neighborhood kid shot you with a BB gun or something

    Glad you are OK.

I don't think he wanted to pull out the gun and drop the mag right there in the shop - that might have generated an undesirable reaction

I was on edge until "Then I feel through my shirt to feel the safety, nope, still on. WTH?".

Glad it was just the hose.

    Mine whould have been...

War story.. high voltage fuses on utility poles have a powder charge in them to open the circuit under overload conditions. If you are ever in the vicinity when one of these opens, you WILL duck and cover.
