I live in Humboldt county and the sheriff seems pretty good about giving permits to people with common sense.

Our Sheriff in San Bernardino county is very good about issuing permits as long as you pass the background investigation. We also have to attend an 8 hour training class/range qualification at the Sheriff's academy that is taught by the SO instructors. Personal protection is an aceptable reason for why you want a permit. I know Kern county is very good about issuing as well.

    Question Curious

I just have a general question due to my curiosity.
Do you have to live in the county where you apply???

Being right by Camp Pendleton and a very military heavy area, I have heard that Oceanside is one of the easier places to get a permit.

Up north in Orange County however, don't even try. The Sheriff is a super-lib that was taking people's permits away.

Yes, you do. If you move, you must get a new permit in that county. Fresno and Madera counties are good for permits, and the Stanislaus County Sheriff just announced that he will start issuing because of less deputies and the release of bad guys.

    +1
Kern county is pretty good about it too.

Not so. San Diego County is horrible with issuance. There is a new candidate (Jay La Suer) who is very pro CCW. As far as OC, Sheriff Hutchens is certainly a step in the wrong direction but she is still much better than the Sheriff in SD. For the best info on California CCW issues go to CalCCW

Check with CalCCW as I think they have a county chart showing which counties are issuing. I lived in Butte county and it was very easy.

    Two things:

    1) It IS possible for an "ordinary guy" to get a CCW in a yellow county. I also live in a yellow county and know this for a FACT.

    2) If you don't like your local politics you have a choice - choose to vote and change the laws; choose to change the place of your residence; or choose to put up with whatever bugs you.

Side note: Did anyone else notice that the green areas appear to "outnumber" the rest of the State yet can't seem to get any major legislation passed? Can we say "disenfranchised?"
