Pulled over by Police today and.....

Side note: There is not a law in Oregon saying you have to inform the officer that you have CHL.

So I was driving and the light turned yellow so I gunned it through it and there happened to be an undercover cop I passed and he pulled me over.

(this is a summarization of our convo)
Came up to the window and said
Officer: It's guys like you that make me drive cars like that. Did you fly by me just to make it through the light?
Me:I guess.
Officer: Do you have your driver's license?
I gave him my driver's license, insurance and registration.
Officer: Do you have a bad driving record?
Me: Not lately.
Officer: Do you have a parole officer?
Me: No?

He goes and checks my license and then comes back to the window

Officer: Do you have a gun in the car?
Me: Yes I do it's on my side
Officer: You need to tell us that you have gun in the car, I didn't know you had a CHL, it would have made me less jumpy.
Me: Sorry, haven't been pulled over since I got my CHL.
Officer: Since you have a CHL you can't be that bad of a guy.

Hands me my license/insurance/registration back

Officer: I don't want to see you drive like that again, you will be on my black book to watch out for.
Me: I appreciate it officer

Shook his hand and I was off.

So my CHL was a get out of jail free card today.

Glad you didn't get a ticket.......better watch those "yellow" lights though:)

Wait a min'....how the keck did he know you were a CC'r? Is this info on the registration or DL? What are they doing in Oregon, where this info is avail like this?

Ya cop can look you up and know that you have CHL in Oregon.

In TN your HCP is tied directly to your DL. If they run the DL they know. I believe there are various states that do this.

I've lived in Oregon for a little over 13 years and thought that was how people were taught to deal with yellow lights here...

Same in Ms. when they run your license they know if you are a gun toter or not!

If you look at your CCW or at least mine does it has your DL # is on it. It also is through the D. M. V. here in North Carolina so when they run your tag it will show up.

Someone: And what is the specific Oregon statute that requires notification? So far as I know, citizens who do not proactively notify are not criminalized in Oregon like they are in some states.

The cop never said it was a law he just kinda , sorta implied it.

Our class instructor recommended that you notify the officer that you have a CHL even if you are not carrying. It is required if you are carrying, but recommended even if not.

I thought it was...

Green = go
Red = stop
Yellow = go faster
