KMOV -- A 17 year old suspected car thief is in the hospital Friday after being shot by the owner while caught in the act.
The shooting happened early Friday morning at 5400 Delmar Blvd.
News Four's Diana Zoga spoke to the owner about his episode of self-defense.
"That I cannot do."
"Give this to, uh, Clemenza. I want reliable people, people who aren't going to be carried away. After all we're not murderers in spite of what this undertaker thinks."

Did you see the video?
I added what the St. Louis Post Dispatch had to say. It was not much either. Their are some interesting comments from local residents though.
The only thing else I could find was some raw footage from another tv station.
There are so many shooting around here I guess it was not headline news.

Saw the vids...the good guy shot 10 rounds of .40 and got one hit in the leg?
He definitely needs some range time, but still a good shoot in my opinion.
The 17 year old dirtbag out stealing cars with a gun in his waistband? Too bad he'll live to steal some more...
Uncle Ted's motto fits here, "No repeat offenders, just dead offenders!"![]()

Yep, I counted 5 shots to the rear of the truck and 3 to the windshield.
The truck owner said, "I shot, he shot."
The truck owner said he has a concealed carry license but didn't expect to be in a gun battle. Unless we're in a high-risk occupation or engaging in high-risk behavior, do we ever expect it?
The article didn't say, but either he had his gun on him, or it was immediately available.
Responses to the newspaper article are overwhelmingly in support of the truck owner.
Numerous responders wished the thief had been shot in either the head, chest, groin, or femoral artery rather than the leg.
People are frustrated at the rampant crime and the seemingly coddling of repeat offenders. Not saying this 17-year-old was a repeat offender (likely, but no proof so far), but he does fit another pattern: young kid, in the middle of the night, out robbing people with a gun. Maybe he'll get probation, or some other light sentence.
People are getting tired of this.
If this powder keg blows, it's gonna be big.
Nice to see a young man of color as a buisness owner, father, and responisble gun owner. Too many times this is not seen on the news.
He didn't go outside to shoot the dirtbag crook. He went outside to run off a robber, as is his right. He only used his weapon once his life was endangered by the dirtbag crook with the gun.
Needs some target practice though.
