I will paraphrase what someone here told me 2 years ago when I was new -- "If you carry a gun, you have a right and a need to be there." IGNORE the yahoos. Hold your head high. You are doing the right thing, and you know it. Be proud.
Also, revolvers are good, but don't be afraid of a semi-automatic. I love mine. I'm short (though not thin) and I have small hands. And I love my Sig P239, 9mm. If you get a chance, give one a try.
Just between you and me and the wall, finding a handgun that fits is like finding a bra that fits. You HAVE to try them on, because everyone's built differently. What works for one doesn't work for another.
