I rather be safe then sorry.
It's better to have it when you need it then need it and dont have it.

I don't get to the range as often as I used to but years ago when I was there at least 2 days a week I never once cleaned them. Never had a problem with any of them either and I would let them hit the ground often. Maybe I was lucky and maybe I should clean them once in a while but I've yet to have a magazine failure. Yes, I know the key word is yet.

With my Glock magazines I'm kinda bad... I probably only clean them 4-6 times a year.

I usually only clean my Glock mags once or twice a year, but I do have a lot of mags...

You mags don't need cleaning as much as the firearm.
Turn 'em upside down and lightly tap them after a session at the range to dislodge any debris.

Personally, my range gear mags get cleaned once a year unless I have a problem with one (and I did but that was my own fault).

My carry mags are checked once a year for operation and cleaned once a year too.

I don't use any lubrication in my mags. Cleaning stuff like Break Free is used to clean components and then wiped throughly clean.

For grins and after thoughts I shoot:
about 7-10 GSSF matches a year.
about every other Wed at a Combat Shoot
and at least 6 or more IDPA matches a year
along with my practice during weekdays that I can get off.

I clean them when they look like they need it, which isn't too often, but powder residue does build up in them. When I do break them down, I use Hoppes on a baby bottle brush and then wipe the insides, spring and follower dry. I spray a light coat of a dry lube (teflon, etc.) on the inside and reassemble. Have never had a mag issue.

Clarification: I do wipe the soot off them after every trip to the range, but don't break them down every time.

lol I know this is bad..but as a example...I had my Glock 23 for almost 5 years B4 I traded it in on the Ruger SR9c..I NEVER cleaned my mags..never even took them apart...they all worked 100% but for 1 that had a follower problem that caused the slide to fail to lock open after last round..this was not a cleaning issue..but I never had them apart lol... they did get taken apart (all of them) when I had that mag follower problem and had a Glock armorer "fix" them up for me(new followers new springs) X3 mags just for good measure. And now to think on it ive never had a mag issue with any of my guns...that resulted from cleaning issues at least.

I have not had any issues with my Glock mags after not cleaning them for awhile. I clean them every few months while watching television.

Dont think there is a set rule on cleaning, I would inspect them often just to make sure there are no problems starting and then maybe once or twice a year take them apart and clean them but depends on your enviroment and what you subject them to
