    ...but television at it's worst. No wonder I read comments like "Why didn't he shoot him in the leg or something? Why did he have to kill the mugger?"

    I know it's just entertainment, but sadly this is where most of the country (especially in CA and NY) get their firearm knowledge from.

    You are just now convinced of that fact? There is no contest between Kirk and Picard! Kirk never let himself be captured and his mind probed by a hostile species. If Kirk had been in command of the Enterprise when they encountered the Borg, he would have beamed aboard their ship, captured it (instead of almost allowing the Enterprise to be assimilated,) seduced the borg queen and convinced her to blow up her fleet within an episode.
