A short story on an educational experience of a non-gun owner.

When I was growing up my dad had a small construction business. He did electrical, plumbing, heating and air. It was mainly residential but also some commercial. I of course got to work on the jobs during summer break. As my dad didn’t believe in un-needed overhead he operated the business out of the house. The garage was converted to a workshop and warehouse and the office was the kitchen table.

He was a dealer for an HVAC equipment company called Williamson. They had a representative down in Nashville that would draw the plans for the systems. He would drive up to our house whenever there was a new job to do and make the drawings on our kitchen table.

One afternoon he was at our house working and he stopped and looked thoughtful for a minute. He then said to my dad, “You know, I was a little nervous the first couple of years I came here because this was the first house I had ever been in that had a gun in ever corner”!

I still get a kick out of thinking about that all these years later.

I keep mine in a safe too when I'm not home. When I'm here they are spread out in the several rooms so there is always at least one within arms reach.

Back in the 60's when I was growing up I didn't know anybody that had a gun safe.
