Off-body concealed carry in your vehicle

My primary method of carry is pocket carry. However, this method of carry is not conducive to ready access while seat-belted in a vehicle. What options exist, within the law (FL in my case) for off-body concealed carry in a vehicle?

    Thanks,

I am not a lawyer, but I think if you have a concealed permit you can have the gun anywhere in the car with you. Sometimes I pocket carry and when I get into the pick up truck I stick the gun (in its holster) into the pocket of the door. Works for me so far.

You can put it anywhere in the vehicle, it just can't be seen. I sometimes take my Glock out of the SOB holster and put it in a padded holster (cheap) that fits snuggly between the seat and console...works for me!

I have one of those mini gun safes bolted to the hump on the floor of my truck. It's just big enough for a gun and extra mag. I stick it in there while I'm driving, also good if I have to go to the post office or somewhere else where I can't take the gun with me.

    Cross draw?

Cross draw works well in a seat belt, for me.

I wear on on long drives.

I've thought about getting and keeping a clip-on cross draw in the vehicle.

How have you been retsup? We used to correspond when I lived in Gainesville. I've done what you say above. I've wondered, however, how hidden it must be. Tucked between teh seat and the center console the butt of the gun is visible - issue?

    Thanks all.

This is legal if, and only if, the holster has a retention flap or strap that snaps securely, and it is not visible from the outside of the vehicle.

Not just a flap or strap that snaps securely...

I keep an Uncle Mike's (cheap) holster between the seat and console...the Uncle Mike's holster has valcro on both sides, and I could just have an extra valcro strap to connect across the top. Easy to remove and fulfills the reqirement of the law w/o a permit. While in the car, I just keep a small cloth or a hat over the firearm...no valcro needed with a permit.

The law actually states that the firearm w/o a permit, be in some type of holster, bag, enclosure, box, or container that is secured with a clasp, lid, zipper, strap, snap, velcro, or other device, so that in order to fire or use the weapon, the device must first be open, removed, or undone.

Pretty easy to comply with, but all LEO's do not know the exact wording. If questioned, don't argue...you can have the nice young officer 'educated' at a later date.

I just don not do "off body carry".

I ordered one of these a couple weeks ago: FIST, INC. (Check out the video)

I've got a truck with the bench front. There is an area between the driver's seat and the passenger, I have a cheap nylon holster down there that I can relocate the pistol to while driving. Sitting in the seat, it is easy to reach down with the right hand and draw it.

Happily my state - PA. considers a loaded firearm in a
motor vehicle to already be "concealed " and thus
covered by our LTCF even if visible.

I use my briefcase next to me in my vehicle. It has an outside pocket with a easy opening velcro flap for quick access.

In FL, if you have CCW you can place the loaded handgun wherever you want in the vehicle (as long it is concealed), and it can be immediately accessible. If you do not have CCW, a loaded handgun cannot be immediately accessible.
