I say let passengers (with permits) carry, and obviously the pilots (FFDOs), but NOT the FAs. WAY too much risk of having their gun taken from them.

    I hate this law.
The screeners/metal detectors do their job and "catch" these mistakes before they get into the secured area. Make people take the gun out to their vehicle/home/whatever. Resources should be used to prosecute more important cases.

But as it stands, if he did as described in the articles, then he screwed up and it makes no difference if he was a pilot on or off duty under the current laws.
    It sucks

If loose gun laws are good for criminals why do criminals support gun control?

Unfortunately, common sense isn't so "common". It's the dividing line between sheer stupidity and genius and unfortunately most folks toe the stupidity side of the line...

Agreed 64zebra, that would be a much better way to handle MOST of the occurrences.

    I also agree with this:
I wish I could be trained for free as air marshall so I could carry on the plane
My brother, (A BP Agent), gets to carry whenever he flies, why shouldn't I?

Unfortunately it's illegal at Atlanta's Hartsfield airport to carry in the terminal or even the parking lots.

Unfortunate yes, but their are currently 2 bills sitting on the governors desk waiting for him to sign that would change this. SB308 would allow you to have a gun in your vehicle on airport property. SB291 would allow a permit holder to carry on any unsecured part of the airport, basically everything except federally controlled/TSA secured areas.

40 other states already permit some form gun rights on airport property (car carry, carry with permit, carry without permit, etc.). We need both these bills passed in Georgia. All GA residents should contact Governor Sonny Perdue and request he sign SB291 and SB308 into law. You can contact the Governor by mail, fax, email and/or phone.

Christ, now they are going to profile pilots at airports, of course! That is, unless they are dark skinned and come from the middle east or similar turd-world hell holes.

yeah, makes no sense, we can only carry with authorization from the Chief and only when escorting a prisoner, yet other feds can carry even though they aren't air marshall trained
heck, I'd enjoy working as an air marshall on my days off every so often or when I happen to be flying
