Delta has allowed pilots to lock there firearms in the cockpit for quite some time now. Rather than jump all over this guy, I believe we should get all the facts and then issue judgement.
When I carry a gun, I don't do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I'm looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don't carry it because I'm afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid.

How many times do we have to read this?

According to the report, McDaniel, who had a permit to carry a concealed handgun, told police he had "cleaned out his girlfriend's vehicle and forgot he placed [the] weapon in [his] bag."

Should be a hand slap and be done with it. Unfortunately, he’s a white young male with an athletic haircut, so he’s toast.

I am little lost here, does he actually have permit license to carry? Or is he not allowed to bring it to his work due to job policy?

Sounds like this guy was off duty and had no business at the airport, but it's certainly not our place to judge him anyway. Worse than this incident, read the last few paragraphs of this article; I fail to see the harm in carrying outside the sterile area, but it looks like a few of our elected officials have other ideas...

It doesn't matter if he has a permit or not, if he was trying to enter the "secure area". For a pilot to carry into a secure area is ONLY permissible if he/she is an FFDO (Federal Flight Deck Officer). That way they can carry onto the plane, without going through security.

They show their credentials as a FFDO, and TSA is NOT allowed to walk them through ANY type of metal detector/scanner. Their bag(s) are NOT allowed to be x-rayed either.

State CCWP, do not apply to airport secured areas. Those airline employees that are FFDOs are permitted to enter the airport secured area with their firearm.

In this instance Federal Law applies under the auspices of the Department of Homeland Security.

So we trust this guy to fly hundreds of people around major cities in a fuel laden aircraft, but we worry that he may have a gun?

Where has common sense went? I want every U.S. citizen pilot to be armed, to keep passengers and civilians from being harmed, because they will profile while smiling; including those pilots who also have enough maturity, responsibilites and brains to being flying "small" private airplanes.

You'd have a hard time getting that past their Union. And they barely get the drink orders right, you want them defending us too?

    How about the passengers carry?
