I knew this was bound to happen and yesterday, it did.

Based on many recommendations on this forum (thanks, again!) I now carry a Kimber 1911 4" and now that it is summer in Houston, I switched from the IWB to an El Paso Sky Six holster.

I was doing some shopping at Central Market in Houston and ran into an HPD officer who roams the parking lot as off duty security. I have seen this lady many times but never had a word with her. As I was getting out of my car, I felt my shirt rise up on my right side so I quickly pulled it down, never exposing the gun.

Just then, she walked up to me and I knew what it was about. The pucker factor was raised a little when she asked "Hey, whatcha carrin'?". Oblivious to her pleasant manner, I quickly become defensive and said "I have a permit". She laughed, and again said "well I figured that. I saw the outline. But what are you carrying?". I told her and we went back and forth about if she should buy one, that her b/f has one, she loves to fire it, etc. She then asked halfhearted "may as well see your CHL at this point". I showed her and that was that. She thanked me for the info on the Kimber and I was on my way.

Very pleasant experience and kudos to the HPD!
