Let my ccl expire so went 5 days for the first time in 20+ years without a ccw. Interesting time to learn...
1) Went into a doughnut shop that had just experienced an attempted robbery.
Anytime! Anywhere!
2) There are other alternatives.
As others approached instead of having a gun I logically considered other options. There have been a couple of times when others who didn't seem quite right I would take my keys in my pocket and wrap them through my fingers. I'm not a big guy or even mean but I've been in a couple of seedy places I would normally carry. Well, I normally carry everywhere so maybe I should say I would have carried a bug as well. I would consider options and actions throughout potential encounters. Punch or flat hand to the throat, thumbs to the eyes, kicks to the groin, just thinking of alternatives not instigating but trying to be aware of options.
3) Knives are your friend.
Even a 2" blade is better than nothing but it needs to be available, accessible, and functional. A Gerber EZ out Jr. is better than nothing.
4) I may be 2 dependent on my primary. Not sure if you can be, but I consider it a first option if life is threatened.
5) Don't let your ccl expire dummy...
