    Gun Show Carry

So I'm heading to my first gun show today since having my CCL and was wondering how the members usually carry there? In the past I have seen people working the entrance putting a zip tie through the slide of guns brought in. But do you unload at the counter? In the car? I know this may be a stupid question but was just curious.

    Thanks

if they're going to zip tie it better to unload at your car.

Im not sure about where your at but in PA I've carried at all the gun shows ive been to. As long as you have a permit I dont really see a problem with it. Your in a building with "gun people" so I dont think theyre gonna mind.

Oh yea, Florida. There it is right between join date and posts. My bad, I over looked it. If you really want the final word call the local sheriff dept. and ask if there are any restrictions about carrying at gun shows. Never hurts to ask.

Unfortunately in Ohio, we are not allowed to carry in gunshows. Has nothing to do with the law, but all to do about the insurance companies not insuring the gun show hosts if someone carries. It does not make for happy campers in Ohio!

    Florida gun shows

There is no legal restriction on carrying at gun shows in Florida.
Florida statute 790.06(12) lists prohibited places.
That said, at the gun show here, there is a police officer at the door asking each person if they have any guns.
I would guess that lying to him about it is a crime, though I'm not sure.
    Good luck.

Small gun shows in PA I have carried without any hassles but large ones like Valley Forge, at least last time I went, had a check in zone for unloading and zip-tie. Best there to unload first if possible before going in.

This will vary state by state but in the end the Gun Show promoter will be the deciding factor - their rules. The big show in Tulsa April 1 was ''no loaded firearms'' and had a specific check-in queue - I left gun in truck.

I am in TN. Every gunshow that I have attended insisted that you be unloaded and with a zip tie through the action or trigger in a manner designed to prevent the use of the weapon.

    I'm in Fla too.
Every show I've been to has required your gun be zipped.

Ditto here is South Florida. At the Ft. Lauderdale show (WMA), I was actually required to take my magazines back to the car before entering with my zip-tied Glock.

Although I suppose you could unload at the table in front, I'll generally do it at the car and approach with my pistol in hand with slide locked back. Seems to me, having a bunch of folks with varied levels of training and firearms experience unloading chambered weapons at a card table amidst a crowd with no safe backstop might be an issue.

We just returned from a show in Fredericksburg, Va....

....where we (me & the Mrs.) spent a bunch of money. ...Just like the gunshows in Richmond, Va (RIR & Showplace), they request that ALL guns be unloaded & zip-tied.

Some people grumble....'They're abridging my 2nd Amend. rights.'.....That's a load of crap, THEY ARE SELLING GUNS. How anybody can figure an event that is selling thousands of guns & accessories can be called 'denying you your rights' by trying not to have any negligent discharges occur is beyond me.

It is all about safety. Of those among us who have gone to gunshows, or for that matter gunstores, how many of you have seen gun safety rules being broken?

I've been used as a target a couple of times that I have seen & probably a bunch I didn't see. One occasion, some nutjob was dry firing a gun & using the back of my head for a target! When my wife looked a little spooked at him, that's when I noticed I ducked & then let him have it (verbally). A second time, a man on 3/4 of the way accross the room was sighting down a long gun & using me again as a target, that time I hollered & everybody looked where I was pointing, he got the message. On numerous occasions I have pushed barrels out of the way when they have cross parts of my anatomy. Because of these people I'm glad they try to maintain a safe show.

Don't get me wrong, I love to go to these gunshows & try not to miss any of them, but do you really want some of the people that have guns to have them out & handling them in that environment. I don't have any problem unloading mine. I just stick empty gun in my holster & still have 2 LOADED magazines for quick access, if neccessary.

Besides, you never know when you might find that new holster you just have to have & you just have to try it out. It's better to do it with an unloaded gun.

GOAWAYFARM.. I agree with you to a point. I think guns that are to be sold/traded/appraised/handled should be empty and zipped !! However, I think the conceal should be left alone and should not come out of the holster during the gun show unless REALLY needed. If your looking for an accessary for a particular weapon, then that weapon should not be your primary carry for that day. Just my two cents.
    One shot. One kill.

Primary Carry - Taurus PT-111 Mil Pro 9mm DAO with 12 + 1 in the pipe. Holstered in a Brigade OWB M2.

Secondary Weapon - Taurus PT1911 5" 45acp SA with 8+1. Holstered in a Kydex paddle.

I understand the feeling. I would like to still carry locked & loaded, but I'm selfish . I don't trust OTHER people I don't know with loaded guns. I trust only three...me, myself & I!...
