    Stopped at DUI Checkpoint Tonight

I was coming home from a friend's house tonight after a good night of party awesomeness. The route I usually take has a DUI stop in the same place every year, and I almost went around mainly because I read they were doing heavy seatbelt tickets this year. I was driving my woman's Prius so I was packed in like a sardine in a can. At my size, the seatbelt is not an option.

So I pull up, give the officer my license, he does a couple chit chat questions to determine if I'm smashed and then just looks at me for a second. I can see the internal debate in his head.....and he makes the correct choice in not calling me out on the seat belt.

Aside from that, do you know why I wasn't pulled from my car and disarmed? Because I kept my mouth shut. GA is not a must inform state and I don't have the need to be in the "nudge nudge wink wink say no more club" and I had done nothing wrong. (However, if at any time I had been required to step out of the vehicle, I would have informed prior to exiting for my own safety. Same goes for being asked directly)

I hope everyone has a safe Memorial Day weekend.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that it's to keep the irresponsible drunks off the road. I wIsh we had more here in Vegas.
We get so many tourists and locals that get trashed on the strip and drive back to their hotel or home. I am a pretty level headed guy, but I get pretty iritated when others put my wife, newborn son, and myself at risk for no good reason.

it's a little early this morning, and I think I might misundersand you post. Do you believe that we are giving up liberties because of law enforcment trying ensuring the safety of innocent familes on the road?

I understand your point as well. It is a shame we have to worry about such things.

Just the other day I was driving down a 1 way street and had a car coming at me going the wrong way. Was the person drunk? I have no idea but that is what defensive driving is all about.

I once saw a post (on another forum) that said Freedom is a messy thing! I've never forgotten that statement. It makes a lot of sense to me. Perhaps I've gone over the edge!

    Take care!

I don't think your over the edge, I see where your comming from. It's kinda like the newer sports cars with all of the electronic nannies. People buy a fast car, they want something that goes 200 mph, and then cry when they get hurt and sue the manufacture so the companies have to "protect them" from themselves. You pay to play, and liberty is the same, if you want it, you have to except what comes along with.
