    Carrying while performing (musician)

I just began cc with my G19. I'm a percusionist with a local band and have'nt decided if i'm going to carry while playing. The decision would be simple if I only played in bars but sometimes we play weddings and other venues where it's not illegal to carry.

My gut tells me to leave it in the car. What do you think?

You have the advantage of being able to keep a rig near your kit. Just keep one concealed near your feet (maybe a car holster on your stool or similar). Assuming you are in a legal venue and are not drinking, why not?

I've done a few weddings, private parties and I always carry. If it doesn't get in the way of your routine, then do it. Why not?

I play for a living, in all different enviroments. And all different instruments. And the only time I don't carry is in a bar.
I would much rather be safe if something happened.

I'm a sax player and play gigs pretty regularly. Whats frustrating to me is that I'm not allowed to carry at the places I feel I might need it most! Bars and casinos are the worst, full of drunks and tweakers, (though at least casinos have good security inside.) I've had some really close calls out in the parking lot though! I was once almost mistaken for someone else by a group of 5-6 guys waiting to beat his ***** outside. Another time a giant drunken redneck who had been 86ed from the bar almost broke out the window of my friends car while we were inside! No provocation, he was just feeling mean I guess. I've never had a problem with weddings or private parties, people are usually happy and well behaved.

You guys are killing me! It looks like off the body is probably the best option. Let's see what I can come up with. Thanks.

guitar player from Pantera. Dime bag "Darrell Abbott" and His brother Vinnie split from Pantera and formed a band Damage Plan. Then after some off color comments from Panteras lead singer Phil Anselmo a Angry fan charged the stange at an ohio concert and gunned down the band. Killed Dimebag and wounded a couple others. Didn't stop shooting til a Police officer took him down with a shotgun.

I play drums in two different bands and have carried on occasions because you never know who will show up. Two "events" kind of lead me to carry a bit more.

    1. Playing at our down town square, a very large angry group of kids well...thugs... were arguing just to the right of where we were playing. Music stopped and we had to ask them to leave just before the security dolts showed up. It was tense, they looked at us old folk but then moved the argument down the side walk. The husband of one of our players had his .380 stuffed in his pocket so we had some protection.

    2. Going to a rehearsal in the back room of the local VFW. Not the best of neighborhoods, especially going in the back door from the alley. Some nasty looking dude came up to me and the bass guitarist and was "inquiring" about our instruments. I told him we needed to get inside and he left. That's when I started packing when I go to those rehearsals.

I would carry at the places where it's legal to do so.

I'm a bass player and I carry my Glock 27 when I perform. It's not the show that I'm really worried about, regardless of the venue. It's the load out after the show that is usually the potentially dangerous part. Middle of the night, dark alleys....its not the drunks you have to worry about, its the junkie hiding behind the dumpster waiting for you.

The wedding gigs should be safe assuming you keeps your hands off the bride!
