    Making a convert...

my training partner is going to the range with my Wednesday. It will be his first time firing a weapon. I gave him the rules of gun safety brief and some dry firing and loading practice (practiced checking to see if its loaded. loading the mag, racking the slide, pointing, firing and then clearing the weapon before handing it off or placing it on the table, all the while pointing down range).

I'll let you know how it goes.

Kewel news. Hope he has a great experience!

I'd suggest getting some "Safety Caps" - or whatever they're called - that allow you to do all of that to show how the round is loaded from the magazine, how it ejects, etc... I purchased some at a gunshop in Louisville for about $15, I think it was, for five total dummy rounds. They're made of aluminum (I think) and have got rubber "primer" for the firing pin.

I made him check each and every time he picked up the pistol to see if it was loaded or not.

Kewel. Before I had these safety caps, I used some airsoft pistols for basic handgun training of friends and family. They work fairly well. Especially when I have more folks than firearms.

I'm curious... what do you mean, "training partner"? Do you mean law enforcement or is he your student?

Hope it all works out well, and he starts to carry as well.
