New Mexico Question...... need quick answer

    Hi Gunnies,

I will be visiting NM over the next 4-5 days. I know my Colorado permit is good in NM...... but I do have this question....

Can I carry in an restaurant that sells booze? Also, can I can in a store which sells booze for off premise consumption?

(I've been googling for an answer, but just want to make sure I'm legal)

    Thanks much

You can carry concealed in an establishment (e.g. a grocery store or liquor store) that only sells alcohol for offsite consumption (i.e. in sealed containers).

You cannot carry concealed in an establishment that has a beer and wine license until, if I recall correctly, July 1.

You cannot carry concealed in an establishment that sells liquor for consumption onsite at all.

You cannot open carry in any of these cases.

I believe the restaurant change doesn't go into effect until July 1.

Pretty sure the OK at stores has been going on for awhile. I don't get out too much and the only hassle I did experience was our local wally world with their little signs....the signs are all gone now.

Yep, good info (as one who lives right near the NM border). Unfortunately, I've sometimes found it difficult to tell if a place has a license at first glance and have been unpleasantly surprised to find that some little mom and pop restaurant happens to sell an occasional beer in the back room bar that's not visible from the front, and isn't listed on the menu.

    Thanks for your replies.........

I'm glad I ask because I thought NM had changed the law to allow ccw in a restaurant which also serves booze...... Guess I will be leaving my Glock in the truck.......
