Seriously, Texas did away with their public list years ago. Only law enforcement should know if I am armed or not.

I have a lot of family in NY so I did a search of my last name. There are 12 people within a 1000 mile radius. I'm sure a few of them are related to me. Wish I knew more about my fathers side of the family.

I put in the name of a girl I know with a permit and her address came up. Not good for her safety and the safety of her family.

NY is Different - it's residents must get a permit to even OWN a Handgun.

I wonder how the State records the data? Only my name shows up, other people I know, it lists their names and address.

At least it's not DE- we have to run an ad in the local paper with our full legal name and address before applying. The legal notices are published on the internet, of course.

Nothing like having that information in the open.

This information would sure be useful for anyone wanting to steal a handgun. Take all the guess work out of it.

These databases could serve a good cause in states like NY and NJ. You can probably find some some anti-gun politicians who are lucky enough to have a CCW while the average Joe is left out in the cold.

NYC used to have the same thing until it was revealed in the late 90's that many celebrities were carrying.
"The right of the whole people, old and young, men, women and boys, and not militia only, to keep and bear arms of every description, not such merely as are used by the militia, shall not be infringed, curtailed, or broken in upon, in the smallest degree..."
    Nunn v. State GA 1848
