Nyer trying to get FL CCW

I have a NYS unrestricted. Ive gone through all I should need to go through to get a FL license except that they changed the rules in the middle of the game:

FL says that I have to have my fingerprint card completed by a NYS law enforcement agency. Up until several months ago that was not a problem.

NY law enforcement now says that 1) they only do fingerprint 'scanning' which FL will not take from out of state and 2) they wont do any fingerprinting for this purpose any longer anyway. NY referred me to a private fingerprint organization. They also only do scanning. FL wont accept either the private organization OR an out of state SCAN.

Anyone have any insight into this dilemma??

If no NYS law enforcement agency will help you with this you may want to see if FL will accept them if they are done by a federal agency. If FL will accept them, try to find a cooperative U.S. Marshal or FBI Agent or some other cooperative federal officer that would do them for you. BTW inked prints are slowly going out of style in favor of the computer scanned prints. My agency still does the inked prints as they are cheaper and the equipment for the scanned prints is expensive and would require new training.

That is crazy. When I applied for my resident FL CCW at the local 'Department of Agriculture' office (the same department that issues the CCW) they used a scanner for my finger prints. Stupid bureaucrats....

See if a county sheriff will do them for you...the old fashioned way.

Call around, and find a small town without a digitial machine.

It is crazy. Ive been in touch with both the FL folks and the NY folks and all of them simply stick with their story of what they can and cannot do. I live in the smallest of small towns and went to the sheriffs office. When they turned me down I went to the local PDs office, same. Called the State Police, same. Havent tried the Feds, probably worth a call anyway, but I really doubt it..... This is a statewide 'policy' now.

If you do fly down to Florida the DoA will handle everything and your permit will be at your door 10 business days later.

If it doesn't have to be a Florida permit, look into another state's permit.

I'm confused....Didn't you have to get printed when you got your NY permit? And if so, wasn't it normal ink prints? That's how mine was in NY, regular old ink.

Go out of state if necessary. I got mine done in VA because it was more convenient for me.

The same here. My finger prints were also scanned and it wasn't any big deal. There were about 20 people in line. This was done in Orlando at the sheriff's department.

My local police department does both. Schenectady area.

Sometimes prints that are scanned aren't any good and they have to resort to ink.

Yep. Come visit, go to DofA office. Or have paperwork all complete, drop by Sheriffs Dept and get scanned and submit. Do it on the west coast. They need the tourist business, even though things are great (for now).
