How Long Does it Take for Wayne County, MI Renewal

I filed my renewal CPL application in February 2010 in Wayne County Michigan and still do not have the renewal in my hand. My current license expired on June 14, 2010. Can I still legally carry if I have my receipt from where I submitted my renewal application?

    Welcome to DC...

If Michigan is anything like Florida, NO. That being said, I would ask the advice of the next LEO or attorney you happen to cross paths with. (If it is LEO, hopefully you are not carrying at the time.)

Yes, you would want to call the sheriff's dept and double check.

Also i would go to Michigan Gun Owners and become a member.

there you can get a little more info on WACO Long wait..

Um if you put in for your renewal back in Feb.. i would go down to the city clerk's office and have them make you one on the spot.

I got my CPL/CCW in april.. so you should have gotten yours about the sametime..

Are you a resident of Detroit? Why does it take so long? When does the gun board meet?

I found this information on the Michigan State Police webpage:

"If the concealed weapon licensing board fails to deny or issue a renewal license to the person within 60 days of the date of application, the expiration date of the current license is extended by 180 days or until the renewal license is issued, whichever occurs first. The extension does not apply unless the person pays the renewal fee at the time the renewal application is submitted, and the person has submitted a receipt from a police agency that confirms that the background check has been requested by the applicant."

    Can anyone confirm this?

I'm pretty sure you can trust the MSP on this one as the info you quoted is found in the Firearms Laws of Michigan

Remember, Wayne Co has the largest population of MI counties and issues a ton of permits, last time I was at the SO (back in May) there must have been 20 people submitting paperwork/waiting for prints. I forget which County issues the most, I think it's either Oakland or Wayne...either way as long as you meet the criteria of the above quoted law don't worry about them being bogged down.

You should have it before your first Social Security check...

Keep a copy of the MSP 'blip' on your person...

Kent County is almost always 90 days. Never heard of one longer than that.

Nope, well there's a lot of people getting CPL/CCW these days...

The gun board for WACO is every 2nd weds of each month.

Do you have you control # is on your receipt that you got from the sheriff dept..Sub station or downtown...

then you can check your status at https://secure.waynecounty.com/w3_ne...cw_search.aspx

this will tell you something...Like your new expiration date for you CPL is..

Mine took just under six months to get, I went down there to see what the holdup was, and was told that it had just been processed, that was at over 4 months.
I was told not to worry about it, so I didnít and it finally showed up. They claim it takes time to process, I say that is male cow manure.

I got my initial CPL in about 6 weeks, back in 2008. It's good to know about all these delays, I'll make sure I apply for the renewal early. Wayne county sucks.

Hey no problem, Now was there a date at the bottom of the screen?
Now you have to wait for the board to meet or wait till you CPL shows up in the mail..

Yea, WACO is slow due to the fact they only work 4 days a week, and there are a lot of people getting there CCW's...
