    Interesting CC discussion with SAPD

One of my regular customers is SAPD. He's a real gun guy with a passion for long range. The other day he said a fellow officer mentioned that he didn't know why so many folk here in Texas carry. He said he quickly defended our point of view, and that he wished everyone carried, as it could someday save HIS butt. I mentioned that we the people are also a much bigger target than he is. He seemed puzzled, as he can be subjected to a bad situation at any time. I said "yes, but you are not the target of the BG's actions" Again, he looked puzzled. I said, " OK, you're in a parking garage in uniform. Potential mugger sees you and keeps going. I, on the other hand, become his target. Who's gonna try to mug a cop?"
"you're right, I should have seen that"

I read somewhere in another thread about an LEO asking why someone he had stopped was carrying. The best response I saw was "for the same reason you do...I have a family and enjoy going home to them".

Moral of the story, we present a better cause for our decision to CC through simple logic rather than arguing "because I can". Not that my SAPD friend was arguing, just that he never saw it from my side.

So here's another answer to the question "why?"
    "Because nobody mugs a cop."
