My wife had been attending a Conservative Mennonite church, and was pretty much "non-resistant" until we took a trip through Burlington, NC. We spent the night at one of the motels along I-40 and she drove off to a local Food Lion to get some supplies for dinner. When leaving the store, she was grabbed by one of the local ne'er-do-wells who demanded money. Fortunately, one of "Burlington's Finest" was nearby and quickly put the kibosh on said individual's financial activities.
Wife arrived back at the room, shaken and bruised...said "How long will it take for you to get a CHL?" Thanks to FL's system, received it within 2 weeks of application, and now the wife does not want us leaving the home to go anywhere unless our "friend" is with us. While her stance on PERSONALLY harming others is not changed, she has no problem with my defending her or the rest of the family as needed...
My wife was shocked! Their family is totally anti-gun. My brother in law just bought a gun. My other brother in law is easily influenced and he will soon follow. We choose to be armed. I cannot have a bodyguard so this will have to do.
It stays concealed for a reason. My daughter knows I carry and knows where it hides. With the right holster, no one can tell. If it is needed, at least I have it.
My wife was not to happy about it when I started cc. After a while she didn't say anything, then we were going out one night and she asked "did you bring your friend with you?". After that, never a question fo over 30 years. Still trying to get her to get her ccl, but no luck yet.

When my wife and I started out she was a bit nervous about guns being around the house at first but had no experience with them. Long story short; took her shooting a few times, taught her basic safety and responsibility and she now has her CCW. And it benefits me a bit knowing that she and the kids are just that much more safe when I'm not around.
Same story here, the only problem is she only carries half the time or when I am out of town...Oh well better than none of the time.
