I've carried a weapon for so long that my wife of 44+ years never had a chance to object or be nervous. I've had the weapons about the same length of time that I've had her.

4 years ago my wife didn't like guns but knew I did
3 years ago my wife said she would be willing to go shooting with me
2 years ago I started shooting again & she supported my getting a CCL
1 year ago my wife asked me how difficult it would be to get HER CCL
She still isn't totally comfortable around guns. but she said if guns are in our house,
she wants to know how to safely handle and shoot them.
She also is OK with our daughters interest in going shooting with me
How did this happen ?
I was open with her about my interests & I didn't make a big deal about them.
I talked with her in casual conversation about why shooting & carrying were important to me.
I treated her like my life partner who I love and respect
and because she loves and respects me too I didnt have to CONVINCE her of anything,
but she grew to accept and support my interest

It took some time but my wife is finally glad I carry.

My girlfriend immediately objected to me carrying all the time, but she quickly changed her mind, especially when a dog charged us when we were walking to the dumpster.

When my wife and I started out she was a bit nervous about guns being around the house at first but had no experience with them. Long story short; took her shooting a few times, taught her basic safety and responsibility and she now has her CCW. And it benefits me a bit knowing that she and the kids are just that much more safe when I'm not around.

My wife went from pointing at a gun, in a holster sitting on the table, and saying, "Put that away. I don't want it to go off." To, having her own Concealed Weapons Permit.
I followed a formula similar to Jeff Smith's.

My wife changes her mind every time she blinks regarding my carrying.
Some days she'll ask stright up if I'm carrying someplace and confesses she likes knowing I have it. Other times she'll flame me for even thinking of having it around.
Women are weird and think in a manner I'm not famillar with. My wife just accepts it.

What alarms me is that you told her "i dont think it is allowed were alchohol is served"
If you don't KNOW the laws about where you can carry, please re take your CWP class!

Some of us dont need to take a class to get our Concealed Permit. As a matter of fact in the state of GA all I have to have is my Military ID and I can conceal (I got my permit anyway for reciprocity). I came to this forum before I got my permit for the sole reason of learning more about the legalities of carrying a weapon. At least the OP didnt say "screw it ok" and get caught and posted a lesson learned here.
Please take my posts with a grain of salt. I am frequently sleep deprived and always just on this side of "Krazy".

Since I bought her first pistol last Christmas, she's been thrilled to go to the range anytime we can get a chance and shoot it. She's always been a rifle lady, but this new pistol has shown her the light.

My wife wasnt "scared" of firearms, she just had never been taught about them. Now, after some range time and classes, she has her ccp. However, she is lazy about carrying......lazy meaning she only carries when she "thinks" she is going to need it.....it is a work-in-progress.

Yup I always make sure to point out when you see or hear something that could have been at least changed or outright prevented with a CC weapon on TV and I say..THAT is why I carry a gun...
