Going to San Antonio, need info1
We are leaving in a few weeks, prob going to The Alamo, SeaWorld, riverwalk, market, etc... Can I carry in these places? Any tourist attractions where I cannot carry? What are the area's to avoid? We are staying in a Hotel just East of the Alamo, if that helps.
Thanks,
Bill

I just got back from there last week. I know you can't carry into Sea World or Fiesta Texas. As far as The Alamo goes we didn't make it there so I can't help out on that. If they say anything to you at The Alamo, just tell them that people have always carried guns at The Alamo(just kidding). You should be able to unless it is posted with the 30.06 sign. The River Walk shouldn't be a problem. I didn't see any signs.

I believe the Alamo is part of the State Park system, but I would check on that.

I was at the Alamo and did the riverwalk last year. I did not see any signs at the Alamo about CC. I did lean up against the wall to scratch my back. As we entered the adjacent room it had a sign that read "Please do not lean of the walls". Oops. My friends who saw me do it had a good laugh as we all noticed the sign. Hitch

I'd also be careful on the Riverwalk. There are a lot of bars, and I don't know if they can enforce 51% Liquor License rules on their patios (you walk through many of them as you walk down the Riverwalk).
I was told by a coworker that The Alamo is considered Federal property (not really sure about that one).
Knowing is half the battle.

As per an article in last Sunday's paper, the Alamo is state property and run by the DTR, which is under investigation by the state for lack of proper upkeep on the buildings. It seems that the roof of he Alamo may be falling in a litttle at a time.
As far as the River Walk, walk but don't drink. There is no minimum alcohol level for concealed carry in Texas. It's not the same situation as driving.
Check it out and have a good time.

I've carried at the Alamo no problem. Then again, I was CONCEALED.
Riverwalk is fine too. Most of the bars are actually resturants that don't derive 51% of their income from on premise alcohol sales, so they're OK. Hooters is posted with a NO Guns sign and the stupid sign that says carrying without a permit is illegal. It's no enforceable, but I don't give them business anyway because of it.
Avoid the West side of town. Bad area, gang activity, etc.

If you are worried about being completely legal, remember that SA has an ordinance against carry of a folding knife. To be legal it must be a fixed blade.
I could be wrong of course so don't flame me too bad if I am.

You're 95% correct. What is illegal is a folding LOCKBLADE knife. It's a city law only and they don't really enforce it unless they want too. My SAPD buddy said it just gives them cause to stop and search a potential dirtbag.

Last time I went to the Alamo (10/2008), there was not a 30.06 sign.

If I had to pick I'd sooner spend the summer in Hell than San Antonio, it would be cooler.
