    Cleveland Clinic

Hello, I have a Valid WV CCW permit which has reciprocity with Ohio. We are going to be traveling to the Cleveland Clinic in late July to see a specialist for the kids. Does anyone know if there is a No Guns policy on their Campus? We will more than likely be spending the night at one of the hotels on campus as well.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thumbs down

Even the parking lots and garages are gun free zones.

That's a little concerning to me because I've heard that it's not located in a good area. Is that true?

Ohio ccw law prevents people from carrying in hospitals. Its not the cleveland clinic doing this per se, but rather state law. It isn't the best part of town but you'll be fine. If you are worried, pull up right to the building you are going to and use the valet service. My newborn son was born at the clinic and I can tell you you will be receiving world class care.

    Good luck!

Spent a LOT of time there with my son for his brain tumor treatments, without incident. Good luck to you and your children. Now, the surrounding area, at night, walking... I don't know.

Thank you! We are hoping for the best. We discovered in January that both children, girl 10, and boy 15, have potentially life threatening heart conditions. It sounds like the campus is OK, but that I might not want to drift off campus.

Can you cite a reference to that?

The Ohio AG's booklet posted on the Pickaway County Sheriff's Office website does NOT list hospitals, only institutions for the treatment of the mentally ill.

Lakewood hospital is NOT posted, at least it wasn't the last time I was there a couple of years ago.

Cleveland Clinic's main campus is in a terrible location! I would recommend getting a hotel off campus, because your car might not be there when you get up in the morning! I have been to Cleveland Clinic many times, and I have never seen a CPZ sign posted, but I have heard many people say it's a CPZ, so I don't risk it. The only reason I think guns might not be allowed is that they may treat people with mental disorders on that site. Peace and blessings to you and your kids! Cleveland Clinic is a great hospital, so I'm sure they'll take great care of everything!

By state law, if it's not a STATUTORY CPZ and they're not posted, it's NOT a CPZ.

They can ask you to leave for any reason, but if they're not barred by law AND they're not posted, you're not committing any sort of crime if you enter armed. If asked to leave, you must do so or be guilty of trespass.

A number of the buildings are connected by those hallways over the street. Can't remember the name of those things. Skywalks? Anyways, chances are you would never even need to go outside. Even if you did the clinic is big and chances are you are in the middle of the clinic with a few blocks of hospital in any direction. Its been a bit since I've driven past. But its one of the sections with heavier police coverage as well. I think they have what appear to be their own squad cars on their property.

Never realized their were that many people around here on this forum.

Thanks folks! I really appreciate the insight of the Ohio folks. I love the CPZ acronym. I had never heard that before, but it is so true. langlebl may be the closest though, it may be excluded under state law due to mental patients. I think that I may stay overnight off property so I'm not around there after dark.

I stand corrected. My one more thing my idiot CCW instructor misinformed me about. I just checked Ohio revised code 2923.126 and you are right, it only specifies Mental Health facilities.

    Nevertheless the Clinic is posted.

I believe the appropriate terminology, at least for the criminal element, is "Target Rich Environment".
