Texas CHL update
Hello all,
I had posted in an earlier thread that Texas was issuing CHL's in about two weeks (based on what my CHL instructor had passed out). Since it had been about a month, I called TXDPS and asked why had my wife and I not received our CHL's ? The lady stated , after I had told her what the instructor said, your instructor is wrong. She stated that it is 60 days from the date they receive it. I told the lady "Thank you and have a great day". Just wanted to pass on the FYI for any Texans wondering where their CHL was.

Mine took six weeks. Just got it a couple weeks ago. Collin county. I did see a snippet in the NRA mag saying that the backlog was gone. I don't see it..

That's still ahead of the 60 day schedule. Mine took 108 days. You did good.

This time last year, mine took 4 months.
Asked by a CNN reporter "What do you feel when you shoot a terrorist"?, the Marine sniper simply shrugged & replied "recoil".

Took me about 6 weeks -- that was 3 years ago.
I recently moved and had to get a new CHL with my new address. I did everything online and got the replacement CHL in 1 week!
Hopefully that's a sign they are improving.

The statute says 60 days, so the instructor should not have told anyone it takes two weeks. After the 2008 elections, TXDPS was deluged with new applications. They hired a bunch of temporary help, some of whom weren't too swift. Coinciding with that, in spring of 2009, their computer system got a bad virus. The end result was lengthy delays and frequent screwups. They got a new computer system sometime in 2009, and after they learned how to use it, the logjam cleared, and what students are telling me is that most licenses are taking around 35-50 days, assuming that the application is done right and there are no red flags or matters to investigate.

Texas in no hurry
2 yrs ago, mine took about 6 months. Part of that was an error on my part that caused it to come back (make sure you add your DD214 if you're a veteran
) and when I sent it back, it did not go to the top of the list, but to the bottom and have to work it's way back up.

I've was concerned about mine too because I have got into trouble many years ago when I was young and stupid (not paying for a traffic ticket and got busted) so I spoke to the TXDPS and was told that if one had any priors it could take up to 180 days. Luckily for me it didn't.

Well I did mine online,Its my 3rd renewal so I can.I sent in the paperwork on 5/3,they cashed my check on 5/5.I'm still waiting.I was told they are having trouble with their internet site,Just be paitent.I can't even check online because of that trouble. So I just have to keep waiting, but the real puzzler is that mine doesn't expire until october.I don't even know why I got the notice so early, but I have plenty of time.I called Austin and was told that everything is ok,no glitches with my paperwork, just wait. sj
