How I celebrated America's Birthday!
Been a lurker here for a while. I have learned so much from this site in the past year or whatever it has been. I have been soaking up all the information I can. I thank you all right here right now, for the education I have received.
In the time I have been a member here, I have done a ton of research, took some classes, shot alot of different pistols, and the time finally came to "git r dun"
So the story of my celebration starts....
Came home from work(early
) on Friday. Ahh....the long weekend has finally begun! Got home, let the dog out, checked the mail, and I see an envelope with a return address to the County Sheriff!
I immediately know what it is. tear it open, and my heart fills with joy
I call around to all the local gun shops and find who has what I am looking for....find it, and I am off!
this particular store closes at 6, and I got there at about 535. They were busy, but more than willing to help me out. I said "I want that one, and I am here to buy" pointing in the glass case. "ok let me get the paper work"
Short of the long, I walked out with my new pistol, an XDm 3.8" in 40, at 5:55!
I even through in some RCBS carbide dies, and a box of ammo!

The next morning I head to the local range that is very carry oriented. They were VERY helpful setting me up with a couple of holsters, one IWB, and one OWB, a new 5.11 belt, some Gold Dots, and a "truck holster".
went out today and put 100 rounds through it with not one FTF, FTE, failure of any kind. I was VERY happy.
Have been out and about a few times now with it right on my side. Wal Mart, Fred Meyer, mowed the lawn, did some painting on my shed....not one person has given me a look, said anything.....Its like it's not even there.
I will be extremely happy every morning when I can now go out into the world with the ability to defend myself and my loved ones.
Thank you for letting me share

Welcome to the group. That first time you walk around with the new rig, you feel like you are walking on air and you are sure everyone can see. It's amazing how unaware people are of their surroundings.
The XD is one sweet piece of equipment, too!
Carry safely and don't forget to practice.

Awesome !! It's such a great feeling.
What drew you to the 3.5" version of the XD?

Welcome to the world of SD through CC.
Don't lurk around waiting until then for your next post, but let us know when you have carried for a day and didn't think about it, because it was natural or you have to go w/o for some reason and feel strangely naked.

buddy has a 4.5", shot it a couple hundred rounds. liked it, but figured the 3.8" would be a little lighter and easier to conceal.
Went to the mall this morning, shopped around a few stores with the Fiance, went to a couple other stores around the mall area as well. not a one person gave a look...anything. I was carrying IWB about 4 O'clock in a Galco Summer Comfort.
So far it has been comfortable and easy to carry.

So far I like it. We'll see how it holds up, as this will be my everyday belt. Read the reviews on their site about it. I can see where they are cause for concern. the buckle does have some sharp edges, and I can see where it could deteriorate the belt quicker than another style buckle.

Looking at the Walther P22 or Sig Mosquito for a trainer pistol. really like the looks of the sig. buddy has the P22, and it is a great little gun, just a wee bit small for my hands though. I haven't handled the Mosquito yet, but I hear it is a little bigger than the P22. The P22 my buddy has is finicky on what you feed it too. doesn't cycle with the bulk stuff very well.
However, after the trainer pistol, and maybe a revolver....I will definitely be after a 1911. Probably a Springfield as well.
