List of questions for my lawyer

Sometime in the near future I will be meeting with a lawyer I was recommended to. I am in the midst of developing a list of questions for our meeting. Thought I would ask y'all for any questions you would ask an attorney if you had the chance. This discussion will center around MO laws.

    Regards,
    Josh

You probably should be a tad more specific. Are you making out a will, incorporating a business or are you charged with a felony?

Among the first things you want to ask is how he charges.

Old lawyer joke... guy goes in to see a lawyer for the first time. He asks, "How much do you charge?"

The lawyer responds, "I charge $500 for three questions."

The guys says, "Wow! That's a lot, isn't it?"

The lawyer says, "Yes, it is. And what is your third question?"

What exactly are para-legals. 2 immigrants with the right papers, or a handicapped legal?

Is illegal actually just a sick bird?

If it's illegal to drink and drive, then why do bars have parking lots?

If a candle factory burns down, does everyone just stand around and sing Happy Birthday?

Uh, I guess the first question would be something about where he stands on 2A, the right to self-defense using deadly force and castle doctrine laws

I'm taking this as a fact, he/she is a criminal defense lawyer first of all.

So, we go from their. My first question would be, who won't you defend? If their answer is no one, then were off to a good start.

    - How much of a retainer do you expect?
    - If I call, will it be you coming or someone else (depending on the
size of the law firm, no assistants that is).
    - Will you let me know when you go out of town and can't be
reached no matter the reason and who will take your place?

There are a bunch, but those are my basic ones just to start off.

I did the same thing in New York. I paid for an hour. Best money I could have spent. First thing I said to him is I am going to carry a gun for self defense and I need you to tell me when I can use it. He explained the article 35 stuff for New York (use of force). I asked him what would happen to me and how the District Attorney's office and police would act in my area were I to use deadly force in self defense. I asked about the civil liabilities to myself for using a gun in self defense. I also had questions for process serving and carrying my gun with me.

A little bit about the attorney I used...he used to work for the DA for my area and is a criminal defense lawyer now in private practice. My friends from the FOP sent me to him and said he was top notch. So make sure you do the homework on the person you're going to and good luck!

Assuming the OP's focus was on Criminal Defense

I'd rather know how many SD cases he has taken to trial and won; and is he part of any Pro-RKBA Criminal Defense Lawyer/Attorney network, group, etc .

Some one with great opinions on the issues may have little practice in Criminal Defense.

Might, also, want to check out Choosing a Lawyer for Self Defense Shootings

OTOH, if the OP is looking for someone to take an gun ban all the way to SCOTUS, check out the latest RKBAs rulings an go for it.
