Have SC CWP go to Winston Salem NC for a conference this weekend

Hey I live in SC and have a SC CWP but am going up to Winston Salem this weekend for a conference and am wondering if there are any "gotcha's" to watch out for?

    Thanks ahead of time.

We are a must inform state. Immediately inform when addressed by an officer. A little different than SC. Is the conference on educational property? Carry would be a no no, even in the car. The above link should cover everything.

Not really... SC is a must identify when carrying state as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong here. You have to inform when asked for ID, correct? Technically, in NC you have to inform during any official interaction. Not terribly different I guess, but an officer has the ability to make it a big deal. Seems like it's the same concept, but worded just differently enough to need to know.

From the CC Scope of Permit
"shall disclose to any law enforcement officer that the person holds a valid permit and is carrying a concealed handgun when approached or addressed by the officer, and shall display both the permit and the proper identification upon the request of a law enforcement officer."

correct, in SC you only must declare when asked for ID.

    ... or a Drivers License...

    Your splitting hairs here...

    SC law:

    (K) A permit holder must have his permit identification card in his possession whenever he carries a concealable weapon. When carrying a concealable weapon pursuant to Article 4 of Chapter 31 of Title 23, a permit holder must inform a law enforcement officer of the fact that he is a permit holder and present the permit identification card when an officer (1) identifies himself as a law enforcement officer and (2) requests identification or a driver’s license from a permit holder.

Conference is over at a hotel so no issue on the educational property part. Thanks for the link to the PDF.

Probably, but thought it was worth pointing out. You know, abundance of caution. It would most likely be a non issue. But I would hate to see it become an issue, having know it and not say anything.

I gotcha... I guess though "when in doubt pull it out" is the key mind set there.

However when discussing differences I would be more concerned about say... the glove box transport differences which is rather huge from what I read. SC- is that is normal legal transport and in NC that is Concealed. Is that right? If so thats rather big thing to know.

Haha, depends on who you ask. The AG says it's concealed, the NCHP says it's ok if it's locked. It's clear as mud, like many of our gun laws. But if you have a CCP you don't have to worry about it. Your covered. Without a permit in NC it's legal to lay it on the passenger seat, in the open, but it's not legal to do that in SC. We could likely make this a long thread on the differences!

If they "charge admission" you would not be able to conceal either.
