Louisiana House Bill 1272 is now law

Louisiana HB1272 has been signed into law by the governor. It raises the length of time for concealed handgun permits to be vaild from four years to five. It also has a provision for concealed carry in churches and places of worship. I for one am very glad to see this bill make it through the legislature.

A step in the right directions, but church carry should not involved asking for permission.IMHO

I'm not too impressed with the church carry bill, but I can definitely get behind only having to renew every 5 years.

    Way to go Louisiana!

    Howdy Mr, Metallic.

I would be curious about your views on the church carry issue.

Is it that you think concealed weapons shouldn't be carried in church? I'm not trying to poke a sleeping dog with a stick, I'm just wanting to know.

Biker, I'm sure Mr Metallic can speak for himself but I'll add my two cents.

Personally I'm all for church carry, previously it was a restricted area. I was initially thrilled that this legislation came up, however in Committee it began to get watered down. They did overcome some sticky questions. Definition of a "real" church. No carrying in churches on school campuses.

I suppose what we have now is better than nothing. As I read it, it's up to the pastor/governing body to ultimately say yes or no at each church. If approved you sort of become part of a "church security team" after you've had a annual 8 hour course. Not saying that training is bad, just sayin'.

I'm not sure the State should be involved with the church like this, but I guess it does in fire and building codes, etc.

Anyway I'd say it's better than nothing. It has been newsworthy here, hopefully the publicity would at least be some level of deterrent.

Turn the election's in 2014 to a "2A Revolution". It will serve as a 1994 refresher not to "infringe" on our Second Amendment. We know who they are now.........SEND 'EM HOME. Our success in this will be proportional to how hard we work to make it happen.

In the my part of La. church carry has been going on for quite some time, and I bet it is happening in other states as well. Trying to pick out the CC'ers is a good diverson when the sermon gets boring. :)

They also passed a law removing the 1000' school zone gun ban.

    Thank you Mr. PPK.

As you probably are aware, I don't believe there is any place 100% safe. Therefore I find it amusing that someone would consider a church to be a "safe" place. Weren't the christians told to go buy a sword if they didn't own one?

I see the handgun as the sword of today.

You are exactly right, and what you say is all about logic and common sense. I watched some of the committee hearings live and online. As usual the anti's didn't comprehend logic and common sense, they used emotion, erroneous info, and worn-out quotes regarding wild west days.

Frankly I don't think they could be appeased, I think they were against it because being against guns was something they were supposed to be against.
