    Wife has come around

I had posted a while ago concerning how I had reached the point where the Boss decided that a CCW would be acceptable to her (she is Mennonite, and "nonresistant").

    Things have changed...

We were taking my youngest son down to our favorite gun shop so he could make a payment on his M-1 Garand. The wife had been quiet for most of the ride, then suddenly said "You know, I have been thinking and praying on this for quite some time; I think it is time for me to look at a pistol I can keep in my purse, just in case I need it, like backing you up if you need it."

Coming from her, this was amazing. The wife has always been a gentle soul, never wishing ill of anyone, wanting to see the best in all. Seems that the "real world" has intruded, and she is seeing that not everyone is worthy of such solicitude.

We arrived at the shop, and had one of my favorite salesmen discuss what she thought she could handle, etc. She has arthritis, so .45's and .357's were out. After taking a .38 Special to the range, she settled for a Smith & Wesson Airweight in .38 Special (she said she had no problem with the recoil, she just had to get used to the NOISE!). The range gave her 10 rounds to try the gun out - she used five, and all five were center of mass(!) at five yards. This is only the third time she has handled a gun in 31 years of marriage, and only the second time she has actually fired one.

She will be picking it up on the first of the month, and we have already arranged for her to attend a Concealed Carry class here in NC.

    Go, girl!

Very nice. I notice a lot of guys on here slowly whittling away at their wives' resolve.

Great news! The "guys" are fun to shoot with but getting to go shooting with your wife is a real special thing.

Sounds like she takes to shooting naturally. I wouldn't let anybody "instruct" her right now. It may take away the naturalness with which she handles a firearm. In fact, if she put all five COM from 5 yards, that's pretty much all that is required in self defense scenarios anyway. Heck, sounds like she already "good to go" to me! LOL!!

Good on you for letting her come around on her time, Chief. If it will help her, click through in my sig line to my blog. I have 4 posts on Christianity and self-defense there that she might find helpful. It's not from a Mennonite perspective, but she sounds not quite Mennonite in her newfound liberty to carry anyway.

Very glad that your wife finally realized that firearms are a necessity at times.

Your statement below just hammers the point home :

Seems that the "real world" has intruded, and she is seeing that not everyone is worthy of such solicitude.
