I've never heard it put so eloquently...

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness,
nor the arrow for its swiftness,
nor the warrior for his glory.
I love only that which they defend.

That was what I quoted to my daughter when she told me I'd gone crazy on guns. I think it helped her understand.
"I pledge allegiance to the war banner of the united states of Totalitaria. And to the Republic, which no longer stands, several bankers, who are now god, indivisible, with Bernanke bucks and credit for all."

    Good quote...great signature choice...
Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.

He certainly had a command of the English language. The Hobbit was one of the only books I just couldn't seem to put down. Read it cover to cover at one sitting

Here's another quote from Tolkien that we would do well to remember

Many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends.
