As for the fake cops in the first - that too is very concerning - something I daresay that has crossed most people's minds. As for checking in on the authenticity - I rather doubt anyone would have or be given the time to do it!!

Who would think twice about the right car with the right lights and guys in the right type of uniform. Under this scenario, don't have much of a chance to respond.
I did notice the writer was a bit ignorant or ill informed since he/she started by saying they had a rifle, then said they had a shotgun. <sigh> whatever...
