Outed at 7-11, how would you have responded?

On the way into work last night I stopped for a soda. I guess my concealed weapon wasn’t quite as concealed as I thought it was because when I stepped up to pay for my soda the clerk looked at me and said “I hope you have a permit for that thing”

He wasn’t too freaked out I was wearing my scrubs and my ID badge, the name of the hospital was right on the pocket so it’s not like I looked like some thug off the streets but he felt the need to comment .

So, how would you have reacted? What response, if any, would you have given?

Beyond saying that I rechecked my concealment (obviously) I won’t post my response until we get down thread

The clerk may have just pointed out that "concealed means concealed." If in your state you can carry but you are supposed to keep your handgun concealed, the fault is yours, not the clerk's for pointing out that you weren't concealing very well.

I would have asked him if he felt safer while you were in the store...

How about; "Absolutely, thanks for your concern."
We will be much better off when we learn to deal with things as they really are, instead of how we wish them to be!

Ask the clerk next time. With all the stick-ups that happen in these types of stores where is yours?
    or
Wouldn't you rather have honest law abiding citizens who carry in the store in case SHTF.

A simple, "Oops, yep, sure do. How much for the soda?" and an adjustment.

Something like: "I sure do, what gave me away?" and correct from his observation.

Why do so many people refer to a gun as a "thing"

I'm not sure what my responce would be to be honest. It would all depend on my mood at the time.

From what I can tell, unless your locality restricts open carry, it is permitted statewide, therefore printing or whatever is not an issue. None of the clerks business. I don't believe I would have commented to him at all.

Actually in Mississippi it would have to have been said like this...."ما كنت تتكلم عن ويليس؟" if you want him to understand you.
