    Carry in N.Carolina and Virginia

In a couple of weeks, I am travelling into N.C and Virginia. My buddy has 2 pieces of property: 13 acres near Suffolk,VA and 40 acres near Williamston, NC.
I have a Florida resident CWP. I did some research and found the concealed carry laws are about the same throughout the states we are going thru: Ga, S.C., N.C. and Va. However, in NC, we are planning to walk the perimiter of his 40 acres. This land is way out in the sticks, like they don't get the Grand Ol Opry until wednesday....
Would open carry be permitted while on his land? This is stricly for self defense purposes.
BTW, this is with the property owners knowledge/request.

Oh, yes. Are any of the above states "Must inform"?

I'm just one root in a grassroots organization. No one should assume that I speak for the VCDL.

I am neither an attorney-at-law nor I do play one on television or on the internet. No one should assumes my opinion is legal advice.

Open carry is legal in both North Carolina and Virginia. NC is a "must inform" state, Virginia is not.

SC and NC are both "must inform" states. North Carolina you may open carry unless in specific cities which prohibit open carry that have grandfathered laws. I don't think you have to worry about that in Williamston. On private property with owner permission you do not have to worry about state laws. Virginia is an open carry state, you can OC or CC with your permit.

To clarify...you can OC in VA without a permit...(so you're good to go either way)

So doesn't your friend carry....? Nothing says he has to, but you're concerned for his safety....is HE concerned for HIS safety?

With that much land I imagine one of the most important questions is what kind of warrant the police have when they are that far out on your buddy's property to have found you're carrying ;)

Actually you might be surprised. Check out the "open fields" exception to the warrant requirement.
