New CCW Permit: Won't have to bluff my way out

I received my Indiana Lifetime CCW permit two weeks ago. I also picked up a SA XD-9SC and a Galco Triton IWB holster to start with. It took 3 months and 3 days to get my permit. A...very...long...wait.

What prompted my commitment to personal safety and protection was 2 incidents in Lake County (Gary vicinity) over last winter/spring.

The first was when waiting at a stop light. A bad guy came running from the corner store followed by another BG shooting. The #1 BG decided to use my truck as cover with me between BG #1 and BG #2. Needless to say, I nearly s#@t my pants. Threw the truck in reverse and did a half-assed J turn. Heard a few pops behind me but was not struck at all. Lucky break #1

The second was pumping gas at a well lit gas and go. Two shady guys approached from my blind side but I was scanning and picked them up about 15yds out. I turned and they asked for cash "donation" for gas money since they ran out of gas down the road. I stood firm and put my right hand to the 4 o'clock position like I had a weapon and loudly said "Stop do not come closer." They complied immediately. I said "hands out slowly and back off". They also complied and backed off and left me nearly wetting my shorts. A bluff got me Lucky break #2.

No more bluffing and clean underwear from here on out.

    'Glad you got the permit!

I'd never have the stones to bluff like that. As I'm sure you know, story #2 could've gone bloody violent real quick, if it would have compelled them to present their own firearm.

Welcome to the forum (and the clean underwear club ;-)

Yeah, number 2 could have gotten real bad. Luckily it didn't and you're here for us to congratulate you on the permit.

You got some stones, bud. Congrats on using them for a good cause. :-)

Now you can stop and think: What, if anything, would you do differently if those things happened now?

Bluffing can be, and is, a useful skill.

Continue to bluff, but be ready to back your bluff. "Bluffing" is a lot easier than shooting somebody.

Welcome to the forum. Having a gun is not going to save you from soiled underwear. Any situation where you may have to defend yourself will probably still cause it.
