Hostage Scenario - What Would You Do?

The hostage situation going on this minute in Maryland got me thinking about a what if scenario:

You're in a large building (mall, office complex, etc) when a gunman (or men) enters al la Columbine and begins shooting people at random. They have ARs so you're not inclined to seek them with your CC Glock, but you're barricaded in a room with your Glock at the ready, with several other citizens in the room with you.

You can hear the gunmen going room-to-room shooting...you assume shooting people. Just then an off duty cop sees your gun and says he is comandeering it.
    1. Is it legal for him to take your weapon?
    2. If so, or if not, do you give him your weapon?

Hmm... An off-duty cop should have their own gun. If they don't, it's all the more reason not to give them mine.

His lack of incentive to carry his own od weapon does not inspire my confidence in him. In my mind I am a known factor, he is not. I would politely decline his offer.

    You have to be kidding.

He's not a cop. He's a duche with a fake badge looking for a gun so he can go play hero.

Punch him in the face with your gun (Anyone who eats 1.5 pounds of steel and plastic in the face is going to be more interested in adult diapers and pudding for the forseeable future than talking to anyone about how they got that way...) and put him out of your misery.

You have enough problems without some fool acting like a cop demanding your gun.

I'm with the "hell no" group, but I wouldn't be able to resist asking him why he's not carrying. If I had a BUG, I would probably give it to him though, if I believed him.

Just inform him I'm on "On Duty" armed citizen.

If he wants my gun he has to have a note from his senior officer or mother.

If his credentials appear to be valid I may, and stress may, be inclined to give him my BUG.

EDIT TO ADD: If he's stupid enough to be caught off duty without a gun of his own he will be used by me as a bullet sponge. I'll let the badguys shoot at him first.

I dunno. . . that's the kind of things the bad guys do. If I weren't carrying a BUG, I'd give him first dibs on a bad guy's gun if I managed to take one of those down :-D

Stupidity has a price, and sometimes that price is your life.

In short, I will attempt to position myself in such a way as that the only threat the badguys notice will be the off duty cop.

Not a chance. He'll have to take his chances with the rest. I'm looking out for Number One.

Along the lines of BikerRN's response.
If I gave him my bug, being as he is such a "hard charger" and official, he gets point, should we leave the office.

Well, that's different. . . if he wants to go bad guy hunting, he can forge ahead. I would try to find a well concealed position, and wait for a shot. . . "camping" in video game terms. Kevlar isn't part of my wardrobe, so I'm not putting myself in a position to be a target. If our off-duty officer is in such a mindset and doesn't have kevlar, I'm not sure about his mental state, and he doesn't get my BUG either.
