Unhappy For the first time in 21 years, I do not have a permit...

We moved to Indiana from Tennessee a few months ago. My wife and I just last week got went to the DMV and got our Indiana Drivers Licenses and got the cars registered in Indiana. And, since Tennessee doesn't issue non-resident permits, my Tennessee permit is officially no good anymore. I am a resident of Indiana now, and am waiting on the Indiana permit to come in the mail. So for the time being, I will not be carrying.

I will take this as an opportunity to really work on my SA skills since that will be my only weapon against any skells lurking about, other than the knife I am carrying.

I feel naked when out in public right now. And not in a good way...

Well as you stated in the other thread lets hope it does not take 63 days for you to get your permit. I take it open carry is not an option for the time being. I don't know if you have ever had to use a firearm for personal protection in the past 21 years and if you have not then take that as a positive that you most likely will be fine in the coming moons.

No carry at all in Indiana without a permit, open or concealed. Heck, you can't even transport a gun in your car with no permit.

And in the 21 years I have carried, I have never had to shoot anyone no, but I have had to draw 3 times.

I'm still trying to stay positive for you so that is once every 7 years you have had to draw. As I said, just trying to help you stay positive about not being armed with a firearm.

Sorry to hear, but glad you found a silver lining!

Don't sell yourself short! I'm guessing you've had tons of training along with that 21 years of carry. Your mind is always your best weapon.

    Mike-

Did you go for the life time permit??? It does suck not being able to even take a handgun out of the house without a permit, but with no training requirement the permit is easy and inexpensive to get, the only states that are better are Vermont, Alaska and now Arizona.

I feel your pain, it took my son and daughter-in-law, almost 3 months to get their IN permits.
    They finally arrived this week.

    I understand.

For the first time in twenty-two years, I don't have universal carry (I retired from service). So, until I can get the FLEOSA credential arranged - or a state permit - I'm pretty much out of bounds. By the way, Nebraska has a six month (180 day) period before one is a 'resident' elegible for a concealed weapons permit.

Only five months and three weeks to go, more or less.

    This could have been avoided.

You could have obtained a non-resident license from another state, such as Florida or Utah, to cover you in the time between invalidation of the Tennessee license and issuance of the Indiana license.

A good time to master your "gray" skills. I am trying to remember when it was that it went from feeling "different" when I was carrying to that naked feeling when I am not.

My Indiana permit came back in 27 days (Got my lifetime this time around). Time before that was 32 and time before that was 33. I don't know of anyone that has waited longer then 45.
