Nationwide CCW Permit
The more and more I think about it, why can't we get a nationwide CCW Permit? For someone like me who goes to states like NJ and NY, I can not carry in those states. What do you think it would take to get a nationwide permit? How do you all feel about that?

Love to see it happen... never will. States have "rights" as well...

With the current cartel controlling the government do you really want them to have control of CCW permits?

Scenario...
Feds take over issueing carry permits.
Everybody is happy and has a permit.
Feds decide that anybody that has ever been stopped for any reason by LEOs can't have a permit.
Virtually the whole counrty is instantly dissarmed.
Moral of the story...
Once the Feds get involved with ANYTHING it costs more money or costs freedom or both!

Rather than a national permit, I would like to see national reciprocity. My Drivers License is good in all 50 states, why not my CPL?

Fixing the patchwork of laws to a conformed standard will happen....just as soon as the politician get some common sense.
We have the right to bear arms, the supreme court has said this includes carrying for personal defense (I don't know the case law but it has been linked to in other threads on DC); states need to adjust themselves to reflect that. All 50 states need to have the AK,AZ,VT constitutional carry provision.

This.
Plus, whose requirements are we going to follow? California? Illinois/Chicago? Washington DC? New York? New Jersey?

Wouldn't it be far better and less costly to just follow a law we already have on the books?
The second amendment seems to have us covered if we were to take a deep breath and quite accepting that the bigger the government, the better off we are.
We are going to choke on our own restrictions.

No Fed. permit. I would like to see my permit treated same as my DL.

Because you passed a drivers test to get that license. In some states, PA is one of them, there is no testing for a carry license, while other states make people take mandatory classes/training.

Bingo... of course, once you lose your license, for whatever reason, in your own state... or any other... for reasons unique to the state which you are driving through.. (carrying in)... it might be very difficult to get a renewal...

I agree on having reciprocity for all the states. The stumbling blocks are states like liberal your, commiefornia, and massitwoshits wro make their permits so much harder to get than other states. This was a major roadblock in states give reciprocity to other states. For instance, some states: fill out a form, send pic, fingerprints, and money, and your permitted. Others requier a firearms "safety"course. Others require actually "qualifying" by target shooting, and a safety course. See what I mean? I would hold still for any level of classroom and qualifying, IF I could carry in any state.
I have family in NY, My partner a few years back had a house on Cape Cod, which I could use any time it was not rented. I travelled to IN,Il, and ohio on business and couldn't carry. So I am in the same boat as the original poster.
In my lifetime I had to qualify for various licenses and security ratings, which included FBI background checks, and such. I guess I am not "moral"enough to carry in NY state.

I would vote for reciprocity between all states similar to a drivers or marriage license.
