I rather be safe then sorry.
It's better to have it when you need it then need it and dont have it.
Off body carry is something I don't contemplate. My wife doesn't either. 'Purse carry' might not elicit too many responses for suggestions here even though alternative carry methods are better than none at all. There are risks involved with remote carry that some of us don't like to think about. Ask your girlfriend how many times she's forgotten her purse somewhere at some time. I'm just saying.
I know, I have been trying to tell her that what if someone snatch your bag gun and all is gone.

Something else to think about. What do most BGs grab and run with? The purse. Now the BG has your weapon. I personally think there are too many drawbacks to purse carry.

Guns are like sex and air...its no big deal until YOU can't get any.
Well, since everyone else is giving you the ninth degree for wanting to do something very sweet and nice for your girlfriend, let me say that Galco has some nice purse/gun bags.
Yes, purse carry comes with a risk but if that is the only way that someone is willing or able to carry then I can live with that.
She can carry it cross body which will add some security.
A gal friend of mine practices her purse carry very often, up to and including buying cheap purses at goodwill and other second hand stores and practicing shooting through them. That is some great practice for those who do decide to purse carry.
I know there are other purse carry vendors with some fine looking bags.. I'll see if I can hunt some more names down.
Does she like big purses or little ones?

Not givin' you the ninth degree, but tactically, purse carry sucks. I'd suggest she finds a way to carry a weapon on her body. It's doable for any body type.

Most guys end carrying their ladies purse anyway, at least when at the mall. Either way, not the best plan.

Check Allen Arms in Greenville, SC. They had a nice selection last time I looked.

The thing about "defense" is that it has practically nothing to do with guns. (As passed on by CCW9MM)
While I understand that there are disadvantages to purse carry, there are also advantages.
The ones that are most often mentioned are....you might leave the purse somewhere and it's a target to be snatched.
Well...some women do forget and leave them. Some dont. I havent since the 90s...when I did it twice in one week (totally freaky) and hadnt done it for a decade or so before that. It is entirely preventable and the same consciousness that goes into not printing/moving/reaching correctly can go into not forgetting a purse.
As for a purse getting snatched....it's as likely if there's a gun in there or not. If it gets snatched or you get mugged...let 'em take it. And immediately run in the other direction. It's only 'stuff.' They wont discover there's a gun in there immediately.
A major advantage is that I can have my hand on my gun anytime I am walking. And not look suspicious. That allows me to draw as fast as from a holster, altho the way I do it is cross-body. I can also shoot from inside the purse...which I have practiced 'aiming.'
Purse carry is more than 'better than nothing' IMO.

I guess if you carry a gun in a purse, you likely alter the manner in which you carry a purse. My wife doesn't carry a gun, but if she were to do so in her purse, I would hope she would change her purse carrying habits accordingly. I guess I've never thought much about it before...although I have gathered that one's purse should match their shoes...I don't know why.

Cabelas has started carrying Coronado leather and Gun totin mama's purses. My wife bought a purse that fit what she wanted and I am sewing velcro in it and onto a holster. We could have bought one of the cheaper CC ones at this point. By the time her permit gets her it will be getting cooler and she is wanting to carry on body, at least in the winter. Time to buy another holster. I'm hoping that she gets comfortable with on body and just stays with it when it warms up. It will be tough with her size, so the purse may not be the best option overall but it's going to continue to be an option for her.

My girlfriend has a very nice Coronado leather gun purse, but she wishes she would have picked a larger one also. With the gun in the holster pocket, she has a hard time packing all her other necessities.
