I dont call you paranoid... but I think your better armed walking the streets of your hometown than a lot of soldiers in Baghdad. You carry all of this with you? How much does all of that gear and ammo weigh?

I carry daily 9 in the mag +1 in the pipe. I sometimes carry an extra mag on my belt but it is rare.

With the S&W640 I just have the five in the gun and six more on a bianchi speedstrip.

With the 1911, at least one extra 8 rounder sometimes two.

Primary carry gun - Kel-Tec w/10+1 in gun and 1 spare mag w/10 gives me a total round count of 21.

I normally carry a 12 round mag in my Sig, another in each pocket, one tucked in each sock, and two in my underpants. Damn I hate it when they end up in back. :-) Oh wait booolets, nah one mag in the gun, and 6 in the tactical bag in the truck.

I generally don't carry extra mags unless I am going to the range, then I bring in a whole box full of loaded mags for my different guns. When on the road I do bring a couple of extra, just for kicks and grins.

Whatever I'm carrying I have one reload (speedloader or mag) for personal protection. This is for both reload and/or malfunction clearing.
When I was a working cop I carried 2 guns, 2mags, dump pouch for BUG, BP vest, baton, oc, radio, cuffs plus some other stuff. I will carry all of the above if I getting paid to provide protective serviceed. If I think I need this much gear to go somewhere for personal reasons, I find a reason not to go.

2 spare mags for which ever gun I got with me any where from 25 to 45 rounds, plus a surefire lite day or night. In a gun fight no one counts rounds it nice to know I got full mags at the ready.

15 in the carry strong side, 2 spare mags weak side. (36-45 rds depending on the 9mm or .40, NM Law changed and won't let us carry a BUG anymore!)

    YMMV.
you know, I never thought of carrying an extra mag for that reason. I only carry 10 rounds in a 15 round mag, but I never thought of adding more just incase you have a ftf. Have you had any while on the range at all? I haven't had any with my 92, so I guess the issue hasn't presented itself to me.

I carry my G26 IWB @ one O'clock, with its 11+1 loaded up, plus 1 spare mag with 8 more rounds. One day I'll get a G17 mag and use that as a spare. Justification? It is light and easy to carry, might as well. As to the number of crooks you might stumble into and their determination/sanity level, who knows? It is unlikely I would ever even need a gun at all, but let us not play into the stupid anti arguments.
