    Question Travelling Arrangements / Complications

    Hey guys,

I'm getting married on Saturday to the love of my life. We are travelling on Sunday from Southern Indiana to Boone NC.

I pulled up Handgunlaw.us and checked, I'm all good for carry in all of the states that I have a possibility of travelling through.

I know that NC has a law that concealed carry becomes unlawful, even with a permit, in the event that an state of emergency is declared. I thought I remember hearing about NC declaring such an alert a week or two ago, but I've been extremely busy with work and wedding stuff.

Is that state of emergency still in effect? Is there anything else that I need to be aware of?

We are staying in a rental cabin for our honeymoon.

    congratulations!
A CCW is like a parachute; if you need one, and don't have one, you'll probably never need one again.

Congrats, the state of emergency is over. That was for the storm they had.

It's better to have it when you need it then need it and dont have it.

The current state of emergency has a stipulation in it that it does not affect the lawful carrying of firearms off ones premises.

You're good to go! Travel safe and congrats!

I believe it is not over yet, the one due to Tropical Storm Nicole will be in effect until the flooding situation is completely over. It was issued on 9/29/2010. See my above reply with link to the declaration.

The state of emergency is only for a little area but I think it is technically state wide. The Governor did say that it did not cover guns or alcohol but, again technically, she is not at liberty to suspend part of a law, and cannot order a local cop to do or not do anything. Stay under the radar.

But the NC AG can tell officers how to interpret the law and that is who the gov has conferred with prior to writing the exceptions to the SOE. The AG has agreed to the wording and will instruct any NC LEO to that effect.

    Seems good enough to me.

In other words a local cop who wants to enforce the law as it is written can still do so, the 'perp' will have to pay a lawyer to get out of jail and the charge fixed.

    Business as usual.

Congrats on the nuptuals. Hope you two have a happy life together. NC is a bizzare state. Home to the 2nd Marine Div at Camp Lejeune and the Army's FT Bragg, you would think a more gun friendly atmosphere would abound. But to answer your question, state of emergency is over, carry away, according to local laws. Have fun.
